Five Sentenc.es

To keep an email as short as five sentences sounds like a great idea. Twitter is a way to simplify our lives with fixed amount of characters (with the problems that people write more often than before). Put some constrains to life actually makes it more efficient. What is the constrain you put to your life?

Q: Why is this email(blog) five sentences or less?

Shanghai Pudong Library Photos

The first post in 2011 – good year. Waked up early, shining, cold outside, but warm inside. Sitting in my reading room, thinking about what to share today as the first post.

I posted a blog about the open of Pudong Library, but without photos. Now, I got some.

It is a huge interior space with several meters high – two floors combined. There are huge stairs inside the room. The room is actually the entire building – the big square surrounding the bookshelf in the middle, with windows on four directions and tables around it. It takes quite a while to walk around the whole room.

Refer to my previous open blog to find out location. You should go there to check out the modern architecture, although I don’t enjoy reading there – I even doubt the value of a library in the current digital world, just as I doubt the value of Expo.

P.S. Going to Hangzhou today with Yifan and Wendy for the New Year party of Wendy’s Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business class. The first party in 2011.

Dukou Bookstore on Julu Road

I was in Dukou Bookstore today with Hengge and two other friends. After lunch at Hengge’s home, and wandered near Blogbus’s office, we finally decided to visit the newly opened bookstore. It is at the Julu Road, and the Fumin Road, in Jinan District.

Chairs and tables. They serve coffee and tea, but don’t expect it as professional as a cafe. However, it is good to stay there for sometime for exchange of some hours of free reading time.

Sunny afternoon is the best time to visit, when the sun pours down and hit the wall. This is the small garden facing the Julu Road…

Books

They have some nice books. I like the taste of the books, although I doubt how many people will like it. For example, I didn’t learn to appreciate the value of these books years ago.

Drawing Lessons

Recently, I tried to draw what I saw, and sometimes get frustrated about how to arrange the lines to make sure I can replicate what I see on my paper. Here is my drawing lesson today:

Look at all the parallel lines. The extension line must meet at the same point, and this helps people to draw.

P.S. Thanks Xia5

Thanks Xia5 for allowing me to take photos inside her bookstore.

I’d recommend my readers to go there and pay a visit. It worth a sunny afternoon.

Night Chat at Hanyuan Bookstore

Hanyuan Bookstore is a great bookstore, and a nice cafe. It is almost the equal place as the Bookworm in Beijing.

Tonight, four persons chat in the great place, as Professor Chan put it, it is a “space of humanity”.

Xiaobo, journalist from 21st Century Business Herald, Professor Yuen Ying Chan, director of Journalism and Media Studies Center of The University of Hong Kong, and Tony Lee of Cheung Kong School of Journalist and Communication Shantou University. The forth person is me.

:-)

About Hanyuan

Hanyuan Bookstore is at #27, Shaoxing Road 绍兴路27号。They have a Chinese FAQ.

It is both a bookstore, and a cafe. The topic of the bookstore is about Shanghai.

Their telephone is 64732526.

BTW, the Shaoxing Road is a nice road (single way road from west to east). It connect the Shaanxi Road (a nice road with Phenix Trees), and Ruijing Er Road. In short, that area is a typical Shanghai residence. For visitors, I highly recommend to visit that area.

My Favorite: Jifeng Book Store

I recommended this book store to a friend visiting Shanghai. I’d like to share again.

The best book store for me in Shanghai is the Jifeng Book Store. Here is the location:

5th Floor, Raffles City, 268, Xizang Middle Road, Shanghai

There is another one at the Shaan Xi Road Metro Station:

They are good because they spent good effort on book selection. So the books in the store are nice for me. However, there is not many English books or other language books there.
