Where to Buy Genuine Software in Shanghai?

if the ratio of pirated versus genuine software vendors is 100 to 1 in Shanghai, I assume that very few people in Shanghai want the genuine or real thing.

About the only way to change the market will be to make the genuine software much cheaper or the pirated stuff much more expensive.

I don't think you will be very successful when trying to buy genuine software at Metro City. From my experience, you just end up paying 100 RMB instead of 10 RMB and still end up with a fake copy. When I asked about real real software, not just a better fake, I was told in Metro City they would not even know where to get anything like a genuine copy - however, that was a year ago, so things might have changed.

actually no body buy genuine software, because it is too expensive. When i was in american school, school will give students and faculty the licensed copies from MSFT or ADOBE which are exactly same as genuine software, but only cost 1 bucks for a CD. Most american schools bought the license from them and give them to students. Even in the USA not too many people afford to buy genuine software.

Wrong! Wrong! Wrong! In the United States, you can't go down the street and pick up a copy of pirated software from the local store. Some people will always pirate, but most people pay for their software.

Went to HuaiHai Lu yesterday 28 Jul 07 to buy a Toshiba A200 laptop with 2Gb memory upgrade, genuine Windows Vista English version, and pay by AMEX. Paid, and they installed OEM Chinese version Vista, then wanted to installed pirated English version. I refused, and got the card refunded. This was the Toshiba shop appearing to be the manufacturer's outlet. The other Toshiba supplier openly said they would use a pirated version.

Went to the big computer centre in Pudong, not far from DongChang Lu - the story was the same.

I suggest you not buy the Genuine Software for XP Home Edition. Home Edition doens't have the same function as the professional edition. But for personal use, maybe it's Ok for you. Genuine software is only for big companies. For personal use, get a pirated one, cheap and good. Hehehe=)

The original post sounds like some goon that is trying to get people to buy fake crap. The bootom line is that one can't get genuine software titles in China, particularly the expensive ones. One has to order them from abroad... Also, the nitwit that said that in the US people can't afford real software is dung. The vast majority use the real thing, especially system software.

Anyhow, I'm off to Hong Kong -- hardly a part of China, really, except for some political technicalities -- to buy some badly needed genuine software titles that after seven years in the PRC, I simply can't find: Wndows XP Professional Edition Full, Office XP Home Full and Vista Ultimate Full. Basic things... Pitiful...

Lastly, I don't recommend that anyone orders a title from a Chinese company, as the software may well be a fake anyway.

I give up. No one in SH seems to know where and how to buy real software. Let me explain my situation... I recently moved to SH with an intention to start a business in the creative industry. As with any businesses, I need to work on a revenue model and also work out the running and capital cost. All well and good until I worked on my IT estimates... no one here seems to know anything or care about licensing and it is almost impossible to find out the cost of any software (10RMB for Vista Ultimate and 20RMB for a Adobe Master Suite???), so I am in a position of having to leave an open value for software in my proposal. When I spoke with a local friend here, he said that it might even be a bad idea to indicate the cost of real software as my proposal might instantly get rejected. Anyway, I am hoping that someone here can recommend me a professional IT consulting company in SH so I can work with them to obtain the costs. Please let me know if you guys and girls know of any.
