There is a bus stop at Shanghai Pudong Airport (where all international flights to Shanghai land) serving shuttles to nearby cities. Here is the schedule:

Little more direction for those of you that want to take the inter-city buses.

International arrival level is on the ground floor. After picking up your luggage and gone thru the custom check, take the exit, then go all the way to the right. Take the escalator or elevator to level 2 around there, take the over pass #5 or #6 towards the parking lot. (They are side by side) 1/3 way there you will see elevator that will take you to the parking lot below, one level down (top level of the parking structure) you will see a room next to the gated exit (next to the bathroom), that is where they sell the bus tickets.

  1. Is it possible to post up the train schedule too? I’m new to Shanghai and am thinking of going to Hangzhou or Wuxi during the May holidays. I just accessed the chinese website of Shanghai railway but wasn’t able to find any useful information there.

    BTW, a colleague of mine warned me about travelling during the public holidays. How bad is the situation?

  2. Two questions:

    (1) Which bus station in Hongzhou does the bus arrive at?

    (2) Can you also post the schedule from these cities back to PVG, apparently the bus company needs to carry passengers back to make money?

    Is this bus schedule current?

    I want to catch the bus to Suzhou, but won’t be able to catch the 18:50 bus. Is there a 19:50 bus?

    What are my other choices? I will have some big pieces of luggage.

    You mentioned that there are buses that go to Suzhou. I want to know whether the bus stop is located in the airport or do I have to take airport shuttle to the cities and then take bus to suzhou.     I am a travel agent still learning about your wonderful country.At present I have 2 businessmen arriving in PVG the seventh of september on Qantas ex Sydney at 1815

    and going to TAO from SHA at 2140.

    Is the 3.25 hours enough for the transfer?? is the transfer easy or stressfull with luggage and perhaps a full bus or any other problems ??

    1. Is there any direct bus from Airport to Sofitel Hyland Hotel on Nanjing Road? Price and duration? Or shall we just jump up a taxi from the airport?

    2. Best way to get to Suzhou from Shanghai? Bus or train? Price and timing?

    3. Best way to get from Suzhou to Hangzhou? Heard there is a local bus connecting the 2 cities. Is it comfortable (aircondition, seating room) and where do I book the tickets? Also heard there is overnight ferry. Appreciate your advice on the best way to move between these cities.

    I am taking a tour of Shanghai with my neice and sister from Malaysia.

    I have booked my flights from London to Shanghai, Shanghai to Hong Kong and Hong Kong to London.

    I now find that the tour will end in Hangzhou and will not be going to back Shanghai.

    Is there a bus or train that I can get to get back to Shanghai from Hangzhou.

    There are buses that will take you from Hangzhou to Shanghai. The most convenient way would be the train.

I have a flight scheduled on friday 03 feb 2006 to shanghai, my arrival is around 10am at Pu dong airport, is there a bus stop at the airport for nanjing? my final destination is nanjing and as you’re saying taking a bus is better than train since its holidays’ weeks now.I need to get to nanjing, I hope there’s a bus station at the airport.thanks!great great help!

  33. Jian Shuo. great website. Thanks for the bus schedule at the top. Maybe you should start an “inter-city bus” section with the above info. I believe the buses are parked across from the terminal building at the multi level parking. (2nd floor)

    Doris Lau, yes you can catch a bus from PVG to Hangzhou at the airport.

    Hangzhou at 100 RMB per person (may have gone up to 150), with departing time at 10:30 12:00 13:30 15:30 17:30 19:00. I will be taking that bus in a few days. :-) I believe the bus ride about 2 to 3 hours long, depending on the traffic. The bus terminates at the Wonglong athletic center in Hangzhou, you can catch a taxi from there to any hotel.

  35. OK, I just got back from my trip in China. The bus ticket from PVD to Hangzhou is still 100RMB. The trip was long, because we were caught in traffic. It took 3:45 to get to Hangzhou and the bus was packed. We had luggage in the isles.

    I will arrive 7:55 PM, April 19, 2007 in Pudong Airport. I would like to go Nanjing. I found out bus service is not available after 7:55 PM. I think train is an another option. I don’t have any information train availabilty after 9 or 10:00 PM.

    I want to get from PVG to Huangshan (Tangkou/Wenquan town/village; or more likely Tunxi/HuangshanShi). Is it possible by a direct bus, or to a nearby town? Or is it necessary to take the PVG-Hangzhou buses you describe so well, and then change in Hangzhou?

    I’m told the Hangzhou-Huangshan bus takes 3.5 hours on the new highway. If you know departure times and location in Hangzhou that would be very useful, if I have to make this change!

I have parents-in-law coming out and thought it might be a fun time-saving way to go but so far I’ve failed to find any details of the boats themselves. Do they need to be booked in advance?

  54. @Emily, I know there are boats connecting Hangzhou and Suzhou, but I didn’t personally try it. I will look for some information and put it onto my site later (but don’t expect that 100% happen)
