I cannot imagine Shanghai could ever have such heavy snow! I simply cannot believe this is Shanghai!
The following photos were taken this afternoon - I am sure now it is completely covered by snow. Do you know why it looks blur and not so clear? Because of the heavy snow this afternoon.
I do doubt whether airplane can take off.

Looking over the pics of the snow in Shanghai impresses me more as a 'light dusting'.
Wow! Have been reading the news about all the problems with the snow. But looking at the pictures, I'm 'underwhelmed'. Looks like less than 1" of snow. The roads are well plowed, with no large mounds on the sidewalk.
For us here in Boston, they wouldn't even close the schools for that amount.
I guess it comes down to what you are used to. If you are not used to any snow, even a little bit can cause major problems.
I agree with the previous posters. "Heavy" is relative. I won't call snow fall heavy until it reaches my knees.

we yesterday took a TG665 plane from PVG to BKK at 17.20hr and after 1 hr we were forced to be back to PVG and have an emergency landing due an engine "trouble".. then they promised had to make us flight this morning but i just received a call from Thai Airways staff that PVG is completely close and no flight is moving in or out of the airport.. as well they do no think that before tomorrow the airport will began to work again...
at the moment the snowing is steady.. keeping pouring the white stuff.... :-(

I agree, this has to do with what you're used to. In the northeast (of either China or the US) this would not slow people down at all, but in Shanghai (or Washington or Atlanta) everything comes to a halt.
But to close PVG for this kind of snow is absurd, it must mean they simply have no snow equipment at all.

you're right... PVG is not well equipped and ready for this kind of snow. Maybe not expected to happened in Shanghai.
Last night I was stuck in an aircraft for 5 hours before we can take off. We were notified that the aircraft have to go through a defrost process.... and the worst thing we have to queue to be defrost and there are 18 aircraft in front of us. And they need 15 minutes for each aircraft.... in other word, the only have one team to do the defrosting...!!!!
after all the passengers are not allow to get off the aircraft. All we can do were sit down and wait... wait... wait...
I guess PVG has to get themselves more prepare for the unexpected incidents.
