Livid's V2EX is a great Internet application. 3000+ genius Internet developers gathered there to discuss topics related to programming, Internet, and other geek topics.

At 4:00 PM, Jan 11, 2007, the network cable of the server was unplugged by the Internet hosting company. It is according to "supervisor's order".

This is not the first case. It is too common in the current Internet world that no one even got surprised. This is how the censorship works. "Unplug" seems not so technical, but it is very effective. Great Firewall works for the servers outside China, and "unplug" is the first (and most basic) step to do with servers in China.

A footnote to this event is, blogbus.com was raided by people who claim to fine the company because they don't have a so-called "License for transmitting Video/Audio Programs on Information Network". At the same time, the new Google Blogger Customer Domain was blocked by the Great Firewall.

So this is the land I called it “homeland”, so this is the way they treat me, I’m always being constructive, I’m always being creative, I’m smart and I’m nice to everyone, I used to make wealth and knowledge for this land, but this land just cannot allow me to be a nice “good” man, so, what else can I do? - Livid

This is the real reflection of the current China in the begining of year 2007.

Here are some reference to this event: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

why not sue "them". maybe won't work for the first tries, but finally you will prevail. and it's really great to play with garbage gov agencies.

>>> so, what else can I do?<<<
You can shut up, do not think by yourself, and obey.
Is it not the basis of the education in China since 5000 years ?

Jianshuo, I have a deep respect for your "grey" labelled statement !

But please explain what the V2EX is, and do it in the header of the article.
Then we dumb-asses don't have to go to 1-2-3-4-5 to find out.
Dui-ba ?

Hi, Carsten,

Lemme explain it to you.

My name is Livid, I'm the creator of V2EX, V2EX is short for "way too extreme" and/or "way to explore", it's powered by a program codenamed "Project Babel" written by me, and I released this program under GPL in Apr, 2006. So basically I'm a nerd, busy working for a creative web product, and the website running on my code attracted 3000+ creative people, we talked about all kinds of creative technical stuff there.

And suddenly, regulators took it down without bothering tell me the reason.

However, they used to take freedom of speech from normal people like me, I think what they're doing is to make fear, it's impossible for them to invent anything creative or productive like Internet, but they're busying making this and that so-called "license" to limit our innovations. I won't obey, and I'll always make hope.

Regards,
Livid

Good for you Livid!

This is probably the bet topic I have seen this year.

By their nature, all goverment seek to control it's population (not just the communist states like China, witness the recent Patrotic act of US and their anooping tactics that intrudes teh privacy of EU citizens).

Way to go Livid. I wish you the best. One day the Great Firewall WILL fall, like the berlin wall before it.

2 years ago, my server was ordered to be `unplugged' as well. I was then forced to move my blog to a server located in the U. S. What a shame!

It happens so frequently, which is discouraging.
