Ticket information:

I am a big fan of technical details, abbr. and the secret codes used on the airline ticket. Here are all printed information on my ticket. I enjoy dig into details to find out meaning behind these characters.

hi, jianshuo.
I think there is something wrong with GOOGLE CHINA.
Do you know anything about it?
I just can't access it now...
I am in Beijing...

Don't worry Fish828. The Great Firewall just blocked Google. It happened in the last few years. Keep patient, and it will come back some time later.

js, these are the abbreviation of the details listed in your ticket, it tells the name of the ticket holder, the flight and the date, the class and the seating, all charges assocated with the flight and the break downs.

The coding is a open secret and airliners do encourage the passengers to decipher the abbreviation as to ascertain the itinerary is correct.

If you fly westbound across Pacific frequent enough, then jet leg will not haunt you anymore.

stephen, I have deciphered most of the information, but still have problem to identify the class part. "HKW6MS" in this case. I know I am flying T class to SFO and H class back - all are same as Y, but what does the KW6MS part mean? Also, on the ticket calculation, I have some problem too.

On the CPN number and PNR record, I want to dig more from the information since it should be the index that I can get enough detailed information from the global booking system. I didn't yet.

Jian Shuo, will you be renting a car again? Remember what happened last time you rented a car in San Jose and how that affected your driving when you got back to Shanghai! :)

Hi Ive been reading your Blog for some time now with great interest - Ive been living and working in China for over 2 and a half years now and have enjoyed (mostly) all the amazing experiences that I have had. I am currently living and working in Guilin - Recently I have beren offered a position at a college in Yantai - Two questions for you 1./ Is Yantai as good as all the travel blogs/sites say and 2./ whats the best way to get there from Guilin - I have a young daughter (nine) months and Im thinking of flying - I notice that you have info about plane tickets from Shanghai to Yantai...Do you know if a direct flight is available? Check out my blog - it is full of photos.
Thanks in advance

i don't know if this is worldwide or just in the us, but if you see the code ssss on your boarding pass, this means that they will handsearch your carryon luggage. if you are switched to another carrier on a leg of your flight, this will automatically happen. otherwise i think they check about 5 percent of passengers. if you try to check in online and the site tells you that it cannot print your boarding pass, this is clue that you have certainly been selected for screening.

also, remember to wear socks for your flight; they've started checking shoes again during airport security.

RC, don't worry. It is just the logical part of my brain that was affected, not the physical part of my driving. :-D It means, I was jus thinking.

mark, it all depends on what you expect in Yantai. It is a nice small city in China. Of cause it is not as exciting as big cities like Shanghai or Beijing. I don't think there is direct flight. You should go to Ji Nan frist, the capital and take bus or train there.
