stephen, I have deciphered most of the information, but still have problem to identify the class part. "HKW6MS" in this case. I know I am flying T class to SFO and H class back - all are same as Y, but what does the KW6MS part mean? Also, on the ticket calculation, I have some problem too.

On the CPN number and PNR record, I want to dig more from the information since it should be the index that I can get enough detailed information from the global booking system. I didn't yet.

Jian Shuo, will you be renting a car again? Remember what happened last time you rented a car in San Jose and how that affected your driving when you got back to Shanghai! :)

Hi Ive been reading your Blog for some time now with great interest - Ive been living and working in China for over 2 and a half years now and have enjoyed (mostly) all the amazing experiences that I have had. I am currently living and working in Guilin - Recently I have beren offered a position at a college in Yantai - Two questions for you 1./ Is Yantai as good as all the travel blogs/sites say and 2./ whats the best way to get there from Guilin - I have a young daughter (nine) months and Im thinking of flying - I notice that you have info about plane tickets from Shanghai to Yantai...Do you know if a direct flight is available? i don't know if this is worldwide or just in the us, but if you see the code ssss on your boarding pass, this means that they will handsearch your carryon luggage. if you are switched to another carrier on a leg of your flight, this will automatically happen. otherwise i think they check about 5 percent of passengers. if you try to check in online and the site tells you that it cannot print your boarding pass, this is clue that you have certainly been selected for screening.

also, remember to wear socks for your flight; they've started checking shoes again during airport security.

mark, it all depends on what you expect in Yantai. It is a nice small city in China. Of cause it is not as exciting as big cities like Shanghai or Beijing. I don't think there is direct flight. You should go to Ji Nan frist, the capital and take bus or train there.
