You're going to do a photo blog?
Wonderful.
With so much else to do in such little time that we have these days, photoblogs are definitely the way to go.
Posted by: Nirmalya (external link) on July 21, 2004 10:40 AMDo you assemble the furniture by yourself ?
Good luck !
In Denmark we do that because assembling by workers is very expensive due to the high salaries (Assembly of a wardrobe with 2 doors can be more than 600 RMB!).
But here in China I think it is possible to get it done rather cheap
by staff in IKEA ?
It can be a mess if you do it wrong !
A tricky thing is the thin backing plates that most of these furnitures have.
They must align with the top and side plates in perfectly square angle before fixing with the small nails, otherwise the whole furniture will never be straight.
A fixed 90-degree steel angle set square, 30 to 50 cm long, will be a good helping tool. |___
How did you ever manage before you had a car??! ;-) Looks like the trunk got a good test with that purchase!
Posted by: Carroll on July 21, 2004 12:05 PMIn China, IKEA assembling fee is 4% of the furniture price, reasonable.
And they can deliver unassembled furniture to your home for 50RMB (depends on the distance).
>>>A tricky thing is the thin backing plates that most of these furnitures have.
That's very true! It's really unfair that this part of the assembly is so difficult to get perfect, yet so criticial to the finished product. You must also be careful with the tiny nails that attach the thin backing to the unseen "wood" below. If you are even slightly off, the particleboard will chip terribly.
WJS, be careful with this part (if you have to perform it)! Good luck with your DYI adventure!
Posted by: Shanghai Slim on July 21, 2004 10:10 PMTo Ginn and Nirmalya:
I am not going to photo log. I just spent the whole night to assembly the furniture - and only completed about 1/4 of the work. I spent the other night at home (2 hours) to assembly the other 1/4 an now, half of the work is done. So I didn't have time to post descriptions for these pictures. Good thing is, the pictures are self-explainary.
Posted by: Jian Shuo Wang (external link) on July 22, 2004 9:37 AMIs it true that IKEA SH has delivery service vans in the parking lots? If so, is it billed like a taxi??

Dear Sirs,

Posted by: Satish Kaushik on June 14, 2006 2:08 PMDear Satish and Ankur,
I understand that you want to work with IKEA India. I have similar interest with IKEA Toronto in Supply chain. Did you guys find a job with Ikea?
If not read further.
If you are going to make a resume, you first need to find out the skills required for the job, for eg they may ask, do you know abc of carpentry, have you assembled any furniture , what are the types of woods used in furniture and questions like that. For Satish- Also you need not mention "Chemical Engineer". In internationally managed companies, if you are educated in a different profession, just mention engineer or science degree since people taking decision may not be Indians and they will wonder "What help can a chemical engineer be to Ikea!." So friend avoid such words. Also try and not reveal you age if you are above 40 or nearing that. eg if you write the year you graduated, they can backcalculate and find age and the resume goes in bin. I learnt this the hard way.
Another way is to work with their solutions provider by doing some research on the company.
I hope that this will help you and good luck with your deliberations.

We are manufacturers of HDPE/PP bags. We supply bags to companies like Cargill, Sunstar, K.R.B.L, Kohinoor, ICI Dulux, Sheela Foam.
We would like to offer you an alternative for carry baskets and carry bags. We would like to introduce new light weight mesh bags, which can expand to a great extent and are reusable. Mesh bags have captured more than 60 percent of the supermarket all over the world. Also, since mesh bags are reusable, they offer better brand visibility and the brand is retained in the customer's memory over a longer period of time. These bags are used in stores like ICA (Sweden), Coles (Australia).
I would like to elaborate on this further once I get a positive response from you.
