  1. Interesting Photos of Pudong Jul 13, 2006
I randomly browsed the Pudong Area using Google Earth, and found interesting image of the area. Pudong is more interesting in Puxi in Google Earth than Puxi - the combination of morden and traditional. Yuan Shen Stadium Nice villa in Biyun district Gaoqiao Port at Yangtze river What's this? No idea what this is used for. Shanghai Science and Technology Museum I suspect this may be the Shanghai General Motor There are some strange roads like this, with a circle...
  2. Photo of People's Square Area Mar 29, 2006
The People's Square area represents big portion of Shanghai's image. So are its details. Here are two pictures I took the other day. © Photograph by Jian Shuo Wang. 3. Old Shanghai vs Current Shanghai Jan 12, 2006
Jia sent me some pictures of Shanghai in old days. You will see the huge difference. I guess those pictures should be taken not too long ago. My best guess is at the end of 1980's. Xujiahui Hey. Take a look at Xujiahui. When I first visited the place, it is not too different from the picture (it was in 1995), but some construction already started. Annoymous photographer What does this area look like? I have some pictures taken in...

  5. Picture News of Shanghai 2005 Jan 30, 2005
When Spring Festival is near, the city shows some interesting details to me. Commercial Spring Festival Celebration The Huang Pi South Road near Xintiandi section was decorated to celebrate the Spring Festival. The Xintiandi group made the celebration banners. It costs some money but it is nothing for so successful real estate company. On New Buildings The twin towers of the Grand Gateway are approaching the end of construction. Glasses were installed to this new tallest building in Xujiahui. It...
  6. F1 Grand Prix Shanghai Pictures Sep 26, 2004
I am just back from F1 Grand Prix. I took some pictures there. Carsten and Gweilo are right. The cars were very noisy and the earplugs Carsten shared with me are very useful so I can spare my hands from my ears. Well. I have to admit that the race is not as exciting as I expected. I am not a F1 fan. So I don't know the names of each team and each player. Since it was too noisy...
  7. Sunset in Puxi Jul 24, 2004
Picture by Jian Shuo Wang This picture is taken at Xujiahui. The sun sets down between the Twin Tower above the Grant Gateway. No colorful clouds, no relaxing people. Only cementin buildings, like the feeling I described in Our Lives in Big Gray City. Check the sunset in Pudong. It is two different worlds in the same city. 8. Wangjianshuo's Photo Album Jul 15, 2004
I have many photos. I have a "My Pictures" folder on my laptop containing all my pictures. I just checked the size. WOW! It is 7.76G already. The biggest folder in size is "Pictures in Different Places" which contains my pictures in different cities. It iis 3G along. Compared to this big repository, pictures on this site is just 1% of all my pictures. I have to find some way to share it on the web. Edward recommended a great...

  10. Sunset at Pudong Apr 25, 2004
In my First Week in Pudong report, I wrote: After I moved to Pudong, I can see the sun set again. I can see the redish clouds on the west before the sunset. There is a long preriod of time from sunset to completely dark. This recalls the life in my home town in Luoyang. This is so common in most places in the world, but not in downtown in Puxi. It seemed to me that in Puxi, when the...
  11. Working Vertically Apr 13, 2004
There is a huge construction project in Shanghai with goals to add a roof to the old residential buildings. It is called 平改坡 (or roof to slope) project. In the 1980s, a certain type of residential buildings were built widely all around China. Below is the picture of this type of houses in Changsha in central China. These houses don't have a sloping roof and look bad. © Jian Shuo Wang. Ugly houses in Changsha Unfortunately, most of the houses...
  12. Shanghai Scenery Around Xujiahui Aug 11, 2003
This series of picture was taken on top of the Metro Tower. It shows the buildings and parks in the Xujiahui Area - one of the central business districts in Shanghai. Below: The Xujiahui Residential Area. In my previous article of Hand-Made Map of Shanghai, I said "Xujiahui is the most romantic area of the city." Someone asked why? You cna se the reason in this picture - it is the peace place hidden in the tree. Despite of unstoppable...
  13. Xujiahui - Night Nov 29, 2002
11:13 We had a long dinner in the Grand Gateway. It is a nice restaurant on the 5th floor of the building featuring mushroom. Very nice place to go. At night, Xujiahui is a great place to be. I love the buildings along Huahai Road and the architectures of the Band area, but from the food perspective, Xujiahui is uncomparable. There are so many restaurants and bars in this area, which I never realized before. I tried to find somewhere...
