I have setup a webcam, broadcasting the street scene from my window in Shanghai.

How I made it
[coming soon]
Update: The steps are available here.

I am going to improve the camera so that it can be viewed by many people. Now, as far as I know, it should work fine on Windows XP. It may also work on Windows 2000 with Windows Media 7.0 or higher. I cannot garentee you can see it if you are using older version of Windows. Please let me know if you can view online broadcasting or not. Simple click the comments link below. Tell me, "I can see the cars and people moving on the street. My system is ... " or "I can see nothing, except the blank Windows Media Player and Ready on the status bar. My system is ..." Thanks.

Hi. I'm using windows XP and when I look at that page, I don't even see the viewer, let alone the street. Just the text, and the rest of the page is blank.

I really like the rest of the site though.
Thanks,
Kim

Thanks for visiting my site and writing commments. It is interesting that you didn't see the viewer.

To be frank, I didn't spent too much effort on it, since it may take me some time to figure about how the media will show up in different version of Windows Media Play Control. It also takes time to test. I am going to spend more time on it later when I find some time.

Meanwhile, would you please try this work around?

1. Open Windows Media Player. It should be version 8.0 if you are using Windows XP.
2. Click Open URL... on File menu.
3. Enter "http://home.wangjianshuo.com:8080" (without quotation marks) into the Open dialog box.
4. Click OK.

I believe by using these steps, you have more chance to view the street outside my window show up on your screen.

You can follow the steps listed on this page http://home.wangjianshuo.com/archives/20020918_realtime_stream_broadcasting_cookbook.htm instead of directly copy mine, since I was using VBScript and some complicated methods to workaround the dynamic IP problem so the page does not suit to your server.

Hello,

I have Samsung MPC-M122 Webcam.
However, I have recently formatted my computer and do not have the drivers' CD.
I tried looking for the drivers on the internet, but it was in vain.
I will really appreciate, if you can help me in on this issue.
Thank you.
